There is a hidden feature in this phrase, which is “making money”. Yes, an affiliate is directly connected with the “earn money” prospect. How is it possible? Affiliate is a term that defines the way of making money online or offline by promoting someone else’s products or services. That means you are not in a full-time job, you don’t have your own product or brand, but still, you are earning money by using affiliate marketing while promotion other products and services. Here is the technical definition that you need to know –

Affiliate marketing is a performance-based marketing model, where you can earn money by promoting someone else’s products or services. You get a paid percentage of commission every time your referral results in a sale, lead or specific action.

How Affiliate Marketing Works?

Living in the United States is actually an excellent opportunity for all locals and foreigners here because there are so many ways to earn from affiliate marketing. How does this principle work? Here are the real-time examples to know.

Example 1 – A Mom’s Influence on TikTok

A lady is living in Texas and uses TikTok, and she posts short videos about her daily routine and lifestyle hacks. The major posts are “top kitchen organizer from Amazon under $12”. Can you catch this or not? Here is how she earns from affiliate marketing. Well, she adds her Amazon affiliate link to her TikTok bio. Did you get the point? Once the followers tap the link, they can buy the organizer and, on each sale, she earns a particular percentage, which is the affiliate marketing earnings.

Example 2 – Tech YouTuber in California

A YouTuber who is living in California and makes tech videos posts content on YouTube like “best laptops under $800 in 2026”. In this video description, he adds affiliate links from Amazon, Best Buy or Walmart, and he earns on someone clicks on the link and buys a laptop. Here is the earning amount calculation (demo).

Laptop price: $800

Commission: 3%

He earns: $24 per sale

If 40 people buy in month → $960 earnings.

What is an Affiliate Link?

Now, let’s talk about the most interested question of this article because an affiliate link is a special tracking link that tells a company you were the person who referred a customer, and this is a unique link. If you want to become an affiliate marketer and have joined any company and use the affiliate link, once someone clicks on the given link and buys something, you earn a commission. Basically, it is a unique ID issued by the brand for earning money online.

How does it work?

Suppose if you join the Amazon Associate program, Amazon gives you a unique link on your ID and here is the link –

amazon.com/product?tag=yourname-20

“yourname-20” is your affiliate ID.

This link is entirely related to your affiliate ID.

This link has been essential and has been used to send a notification about the purchase from your referral to Amazon. This is the main component to get a paid small percentage of the purchase.
